An online Alpine sports retailer and bicycle business in West Sussex has been forced to close.

BLiSS Outdoor Limited and BLiSS Bikes, t/a Edge & Wax, appointed Jon Beard and John Walters, of business rescue and recovery specialists Begbies Traynor, as administrators on June 1st. Jon Beard leads the administration.

The business, founded eight years ago, has ceased trading and its 12 employees have been made redundant.

The company, which operated the third largest online retail ski shop, also ran an award-winning ski boot fitting service, as well as a workshop for servicing skis and snowboards. Based in Partridge Green, it also operated a bicycle workshop and showroom.

Jon Beard said: 'The company experienced financial difficulties as a consequence of a combination of factors, primarily the fact that the business has been impacted from competition from other online retailers in Europe

'Adverse currency movements exasperated this problem, along with periodic episodes of poor snowfall over the last two seasons.

'We are currently pursuing a sale of the business and its assets.'
