Proximus has won the AGIV Awards in the "Utilities" category for having automated and integrated the GIPOD platform in its own IT systems. An excellent example of simplification and efficiency for a better customer experience.
At the end of last year, AGIV, the body responsible for ensuring optimal usage of geographic information in Flanders, held its annual meeting day. At that event Proximus took home the AGIV Award of "utilities" for having automated and integrated the GIPOD platform.
GIPOD, created in 2007, is a central platform which groups together all public utility company information relating to roadworks and other activities on public property. This enables a better harmonization of works performed by the different utility companies, which reduces inconvenience caused on public property. A decree will make it obligatory to use this platform as from 2016.
Funded by the Flemish government, this platform has been developed in full consultation with the users. To that end, user groups and a steering committee of users were set up. They bring together the Flemish council of network users, the association of Flemish cities and municipalities, the Flemish road and traffic agency, AGIV and the cabinets of Peeters and Crevits.
In practice, all public utility companies, including Proximus, submit their own requests for works on public property and consult and analyze incoming requests via GIPOD to organize the works in synergy.
The state of progress of the works established on-site by the contractors of Proximus, is automatically transmitted to GIPOD. All parties concerned therefore have access to it at any time.
At Proximus, this procedure has been completely automatic and in real time since January 2014.
Proximus SA is the leading telecommunications operator in Belgium. Net sales (including intragroup) break down by activity as follows:
- telecommunication services to individuals (36.4%): fixed telephony (1 million installed lines at the end of 2023), mobile telephony (3.3 million clients), Internet access services (1.8 million subscribers), interactive television broadcasting (1,674,000 subscribers), convergent services (1,112,000 subscribers), etc.;
- telecommunication services to enterprises (35.2%): fixed telephony (566,000 lines at the end of 2023), mobile telephony (1.8 million post-paid cards distributed), Internet access services and data transmission (440,000 subscribers). The group also sells wholesale communication minutes to other operators located in Belgium;
- carrier services (18.4%; BICS): connectivity and capacity services for telecom operators and international service providers;
- other (10%).
Belgium accounts for 71.7% of net sales.
