W. R. Berkley Corporation (NYSE: WRB) today announced the
appointment of Douglas J. Powers as president and chief executive
officer of Carolina Casualty Insurance Company, succeeding William E.
Haines. The appointment is effective immediately.
Mr. Powers has more than 25 years of experience in the insurance
industry. He has been with W. R. Berkley Corporation since 1992, having
co-founded Monitor Liability Managers, LLC, a W. R. Berkley Corporation
member company, and serving as its president and chief executive officer
until 2009.
Carolina Casualty specializes in writing liability, physical damage and
motor truck cargo insurance for the nation's trucking industry,
including local, intermediate, and long-haul truckers, as well as
private carriers. It also writes liability and physical damage coverage
for various classes of business and public auto insurance.
Commenting on the appointment, William R. Berkley, chairman of the board
