Aug. 24, 2015 - Black Hills Energy electric customers in Pueblo, Cañon City and Rocky Ford could see contractors for the utility on their property to perform meter exchanges in the coming weeks.

Employees with the Elster company are conducting the exchanges with a focus on safety and limiting the impact to customers and their property. The exchange typically takes just a few minutes and, unless the meter is inside the home or business, no indoor access is required. You may need to reset electric clocks and other devices on a timer that lack a battery backup - lawn sprinklers, lighting, programmable thermostats.

All Elster employees will have the Black Hills Energy logo on their vehicle, vest and hard hat. In addition, they are required to present a Black Hills Energy-issued identification badge if asked.

Black Hills Energy can confirm the legitimacy of a contractor. Customers should call Black Hills Energy's 24-hour emergency line at 800-694-8989 with any questions or concerns about someone claiming to represent the company. A call to local law enforcement is also an immediate option.
