June 17, 2015 - Black Hills Energy in late June will begin a ten-week construction project to upgrade its natural gas distribution system in Norfolk. The utility and its contractors will replace more than two miles of bare steel natural gas mains with modern polyethylene and partially or totally replace approximately 230 natural gas service lines to individual homes and businesses.

These improvements will increase system integrity so that Black Hills Energy's more than 8,650 natural gas customers in Norfolk can continue to receive safe and reliable natural gas. Polyethylene is more resistant to corrosion and is adaptable to the changing needs of a community.

"We've provided safe, reliable natural gas service to Norfolk for more than 75 years," said Scott Zaruba, operations manager for Black Hills Energy. "This investment is part of our commitment to being a good partner to the community, providing energy for homes and businesses alike."

Interruptions in natural gas service to homes and businesses in the area will be minimal and Black Hills Energy will notify customers in advance of any planned outages. Some streets and alleys may be restricted or closed for a time while the utility completes the work.

Zaruba said customers are welcome to contact Black Hills Energy locally at 402-371-7195 ext.14 with questions regarding the project. Billing or account related questions should still be directed to Black Hills Energy's customer service associates at 888-890-5554.
