Projected savings for energy efficient lighting project estimated at about $5K a year

Newcastle, Wyo., Oct 13, 2016 - The City of Newcastle will save an estimated $5,000 per year thanks to the design and installation of energy efficient lighting in city properties. On top of those savings, Black Hills Energy presented Newcastle with a $5,032 rebate check toward the city's LED lighting retrofit project. The energy efficiency project was funded through a Wyoming State Energy Office grant to fund local government energy improvement projects.

'Black Hills Energy offers cash-back rebates as an incentive to encourage our customers to install energy efficient equipment when upgrading their home or business,' said Jim Keck, commercial account manager for Black Hills Energy in South Dakota and Wyoming, where the utility serves a combined 69,000 customers in 32 communities. 'Those rebates are awarded to customers who apply and meet prescribed qualifications.'

The city replaced the existing light fixtures in City Hall, city street lights, the public works facility, the control and well stations and the city shop facility. The $22,760 energy efficient lighting investment, reduced to $17,728 by the Black Hills Energy rebate, will yield a payback in just over 3½ years.

Charita Brunner, city clerk and treasurer for the city of Newcastle, completed the necessary paperwork and a grant was then awarded to the city. Bob Hartley, city engineer, is the project manager and initiated a Request for Proposal from local, licensed electricians to bid on the project. Johns Electric from Newcastle was awarded the work to retrofit and replace the existing lighting fixtures.
