SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - June 25, 2012- blinkx founder and CEO
Suranga Chandratillake has been awarded a coveted Silver
Medal from the Royal Academy of Engineering for advancing the
cause of British engineering through the development of
blinkx, the world's largest and most advanced video search
engine.
The Silver Medal awards celebrate the strength and diversity
of UK engineering and are given to those who have achieved
significant commercial success in their fields.
Technology pioneer Suranga Chandratillake led the development
of blinkx, which he founded in 2004 and launched in 2005.
blinkx uses patented search technologies that listen to-and
even see-video on the Web, helping users enjoy a breadth and
accuracy of search results not available elsewhere. By
indexing more than 35 million hours of audio, video, viral
and TV content, and making it fully searchable and available
on demand, blinkx has established itself as the remote
control for the video web.
Now a highly regarded expert on the convergence of the Web
and TV, Suranga graduated from Cambridge University with a
degree in Computer Science back in 2001, before holding a
variety of roles in technology, including U.S. CTO of
Autonomy Corporation.
"Britain has a long and proud tradition of producing some of
the very best engineers in the world. I am truly honoured to
receive this recognition," said Suranga Chandratillake,
founder and CEO, blinkx.
Suranga will receive the Silver Medal at the Academy's
annual awards dinner at London's Royal Opera House on 26
June.
About blinkx
blinkx plc (LSE AIM: BLNX) is the world's largest and
most advanced video search engine. Today, blinkx has indexed
more than 35 million hours of audio, video, viral and TV
content, and made it fully searchable and available on
demand. blinkx's founders set out to solve a significant
challenge - the growing amount of TV and user-generated
content on the Web means keyword-based search technologies
only scratch the surface. blinkx's patented search
technologies listen to-and even see-video on the Web, helping
users enjoy a breadth and accuracy of search results not
available elsewhere. In addition, blinkx powers the video
search for many of the world's most frequented sites.
blinkx is based in San Francisco and London. More information

About The Royal Academy of Engineering
The Academy's Silver Medals were instigated in 1995. They
are awarded annually to engineers who have made outstanding
contributions to British engineering but have been working as
an engineer for no more than 22 years. Up to four medals may
be awarded each year.
Founded in 1976, The Royal Academy of Engineering promotes
the engineering and technological welfare of the country. Our
fellowship - comprising the UK's most eminent engineers -
provides the leadership and expertise for our activities,
which focus on the relationships between engineering,
technology, and the quality of life. As a national academy,
we provide independent and impartial advice to Government;
work to secure the next generation of engineers; and provide
a voice for Britain's engineering community.
