From 27 September to 14 December, the unique retrospective of one of the world's most influential living artists, Anselm Kiefer, will be shown at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Kiefer's exhibition will include more than 130 works ranging from Kiefer's early work of the 1970s up to the present time, including artist's books, drawings, photographs, watercolours, paintings, sculptures and installation works.

Kiefer's artwork will cover 23,000 square feet of space at the Royal Academy which 40% are made up new work created especially for the exhibition.

Kiefer blends the themes of religion, poetry and philosophy: throughout his career, the German artist has confronted the weight of the past and the power of myth on a monumental scale. The artist moved to Barjac, near Nîmes in the south of France, in 1992. Over time, his home and studio complex combined to form a "gesamtkunstwerk" or total work of art.

Anselm Kiefer marks the fourth exhibition that BNP Paribas has supported and the second in this series, following the success of David Hockney: A Bigger Picture in 2012. BNP Paribas is proud to be working again with an institution that promotes not just the appreciation and understanding of art, but also its practice.

BNP Paribas is proud to sponsor Anselm Kiefer at the Royal Academy of Arts as part of the ongoing commitment to the United Kingdom as a major centre for the Group and to its global sponsorship of the arts. BNP Paribas, as the bank for a changing world, is committed to promoting culture and artistic heritage internationally which is delivered through the sponsorship of shows and specialist publications, the restoration of masterpieces and support for talented artists around the world through its businesses and the BNP Paribas Foundation.
