Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited ("BOCHK")
announced the launch of Hong Kong's first chip-based ATM
Card - the chip-based BOC Card to enhance security while
offering a number of new banking service functions to
customers.
By replacing magnetic stripe with the chip technology for
authentication, the brand new chip-based BOC Card provides
customers with enhanced security and protection. In addition,
BOCHK will roll out a wider range of chip card applications
and offer customers new bank card functions. Starting from
October 2012, BOCHK will install Self-Service Kiosks in
branches in phases, allowing the chip-based BOC Cardholders
to enjoy personalised banking services using the e-Passbook,
including enquiry of account balance and the latest 10
transactions, personal data updating and foreign currency
exchange for maximum convenience in financial management.
Replacement of the existing magnetic stripe BOC Cards by the
chip-based cards has been conducted in phases starting from
April 2012, to be completed by the end of February 2014. The
PIN, linking to account(s) and the maximum daily limit of
cash withdrawal in respect of the chip-based BOC Card will
remain the same as those of the magnetic stripe BOC
Card. Re-arrangement of the bills registered for the
Payment by Phone Service ("PPS") is not required.
With the new chip-based BOC Card, customers can enjoy the BOC
Card services anytime anywhere in Hong Kong, the Mainland of
China and overseas, including settlement of purchases and
HKD/RMB notes withdrawal at "JETCO" ATMs in Hong
Kong. Funds transfer and bill payment can also be made
through the ATM and point-of-sale ("POS") networks.
To be in line with the launch of the chip-based BOC Card,
BOCHK will upgrade the Group's over 570 ATM terminals in
phases, out of which 360 ATMs were upgraded as at the end of
March 2012. Upgrading of the other ATMs will be completed
before the end of 2012 to support the chip-based BOC Card.
