Booz Allen Hamilton has been recognized as a top supporter of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) by Career Communications Group, Inc., a publisher celebrating diversity and promoting equal opportunity for minorities and women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Career Communications, which sponsors the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) and Women of Color in STEM, releases its "Top Supporters of HBCUs" list annually, outlining the results of their survey of the deans of 14 ABET-accredited, HBCU engineering programs, and the corporate-academic alliance-Advancing Minorities' Interest in Engineering (AMIE).

The survey asks individuals in these programs to list the corporate and government or non-profit organizations that provide the most support to their schools. Institutions are asked to consider the following factors: support for infrastructure modernization and enhancement, research and mentorship projects, participation on advisory councils, faculty development opportunities, scholarships, student projects, stipends, co-ops, and career opportunities.

Booz Allen's history of Diversity and Inclusion efforts is marked by numerous internal milestones and external recognitions as, year after year, our representation of women and minorities at Booz Allen has increased. Demonstrating our commitment to diversity and inclusion, 33 percent of the firm's senior leaders sit on the boards of multicultural organizations and many more participate in other roles at these organizations.

Booz Allen Executive Vice President Lloyd W. Howell, Jr., is a member of the Board of the United Negro College Fund, the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization. Betty Thompson, Booz Allen executive vice president and chief personnel officer, also generously offers her time and expertise as a member of the Board of Directors of Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF).

Booz Allen employees benefit from the firm's commitment to organizations that champion diversity and inclusion. David King, Booz Allen senior consultant and a TMFC recruit joined the firm in 2011 after attending the 7th annual Thurgood Marshall Leadership Institute.  In the three years since he joined the firm, David has had the opportunity to work on numerous high-profile and entrepreneurial projects that have included development of mobile initiatives for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and methods for getting intelligence to senior policy makers.

"Booz Allen does a fantastic job of supporting TMFC." said David, "Those seemingly insignificant three days set the stage for what was to ultimately become the inception of a wonderful journey into lasting relationships and the birth of an exciting professional career." Booz Allen also affords David the opportunity to speak at TMFC events annually, which has led to several new recruits, one for which David acts as a mentor.

Diversity continues to be a priority for the firm and its senior leaders. "The more we understand each other and embrace what each individual brings to the table, the more we can innovate for our clients-and each other," said Dr. Ralph W. Shrader, Booz Allen's Chairman and CEO. "This is the cornerstone of our Diversity & Inclusion commitment. We see the world in new ways, and respond to challenges in better ways."
