Booz Allen Hamilton has named Craig G. Veith, an experienced public affairs and strategic communications executive, as Vice President for External Affairs. In this newly created position, he will oversee the firm’s government relations, media relations and corporate social responsibility functions as the company seeks to provide even greater support for clients.

Veith brings more than three decades of high-level public affairs and communications experience to the firm, most recently as founder and principal of Sound Resources, a consultancy specializing in a full range of capabilities for clients that included associations, coalitions and corporations in the energy, environmental, agricultural, telecommunications, transportation and financial services sectors.

Before founding Sound Resources in 2005, Veith had served since 2002 as President & Chief Executive Officer of Direct Impact, a leader in the grassroots industry. He previously served as the Chairman of the U.S. Media Practice at Burson-Marsteller, where he developed and implemented integrated campaigns for a wide range of clients.

His other experience includes providing strategic, crisis and litigation communications counsel to a financial services firm’s C-suite during its engagements with the Federal Reserve and New York State Attorney General as well as to the Majority Shareholders of the Bank of Credit Commerce International (BCCI), following the worldwide regulatory closure in July 1991.

During the 1996 election cycle, Veith was communications director for the National Republican Congressional Committee, where he was responsible for providing ongoing communications counsel to more than 100 congressional campaigns and acted as the Committee’s primary spokesman with the national political press corps and with reporters in more than 150 congressional districts. He also served as press secretary for Congressman Mickey Edwards (R-OK) and communications director for the House Republican Policy Committee.

Veith holds a B.A. in Public Policy Studies & Economics from Duke University. His leadership work includes service as Treasurer of the Alexandria Soccer Association, the Board of Governors of St. Stephens & St. Agnes School, as a member of vestry at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA and on the Belle Haven Country Club Board of Directors.
