Boral combines Construction Materials and Cement divisions and appoints new Divisional Managing Director

Boral Limited (ASX: BLD) today announced further restructuring involving the consolidation of its Australian construction materials and cement divisions into an integrated Australian division, and the appointment of a new Divisional Managing Director.
Mr Joseph Goss has been appointed Divisional Managing Director, Boral Construction Materials & Cement, effective 1 April 2013. Mr Goss brings to Boral substantial experience in the global cement industry and engineering sectors including the past ten years in the cement operations of Lafarge North America, Inc.
In addition to senior executive, manufacturing and business development roles with Lafarge in the USA and Canada, Mr Goss spent 16 years in general management, marketing, sales and product innovation roles with services engineering group Schlumberger NV in Europe, the USA and the Asia Pacific region.
A metallurgist, with a PhD in Materials Science, Mr Goss has proven credentials in LEAN manufacturing, safety management, and sales and marketing, which are key priorities for Boral. Mr Goss also has experience in delivering restructuring programs and improvements in supply chain management across geographically diverse facilities.
As a result of Boral's organisational restructure, Mr Murray Read's position of Divisional Managing Director, Boral Construction Materials will be made redundant and Mr Read will leave the organisation on 1 July 2013, following a transition period.
Boral's CEO and Managing Director, Mike Kane, said: "The consolidation of construction materials and cement into a single division is the next step of Boral's restructuring initiatives and reinforces the importance of these Australian businesses in the Group's portfolio. Just as Boral's aggregate business integrates downstream into our concrete and asphalt operations, and our bitumen supply flows into our asphalt business, Boral's cement business provides a strategically important input into Boral's concrete operations. It therefore makes sense to bring these operations together under one leadership team.
"Boral Construction Materials & Cement division will be Boral's largest division and an important future growth platform. While Joe brings valuable global industry experience to the business, he will be supported by a seasoned team of Executive General Managers including Ross Harper, EGM Cement, Shane Graham, EGM Major Projects, and four regional Executive General Managers - Paul Dalton with responsibility for Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, Greg Price managing New South Wales and the ACT, Steve Pyne managing Queensland and Northern Territory, and Wayne Manners in Western Australia.
"Regrettably, the changes will mean Murray Read will leave the organisation. Murray has made a major contribution to Boral over the past 28 years. Following an impressive career in plasterboard in Australia and Asia, Murray joined construction materials in 2001 and has run the division since mid-2010. I thank Murray for his leadership and management of the construction materials business, and I wish him well for the future," said Mr Kane.
