Last year, we launched our Box for Government initiative, making it possible for every government agency, for the first time, to securely and confidently manage all of their content in the cloud using Box. Today, Box empowers over 6,500 government agencies to solve some of the toughest business problems with technology designed to increase their flexibility and responsiveness, while ensuring government data remains secure.

America's public servants work tirelessly every day to serve our veterans, fight crime, uphold justice, operate public services, and provide opportunities and assistance to under-served communities at the Federal, State and local levels. However, legacy technology platforms, disconnected data platforms, and cumbersome silos have traditionally hindered employees' ability to provide seamless and user centric interactions to those they serve.

That's why today, we are excited to announce our reinforced commitment to the public sector with new capabilities and partners to help agencies rethink the way that they work, streamline their complex business processes, and manage highly sensitive mission critical data.

Department of Defense SRG Level 4 Authorization

First, we are proud to announce that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has authorized box as a trusted platform at the DoD SRG Level 4. Box is also working to secure the FedRAMP HIGH certification, with prioritization through FedRAMP connect. These new security accreditations will allow the Department of Defense and Federal Civilian agencies to leverage box products and platform to manage sensitive, controlled unclassified information, including law enforcement sensitive data, export controlled information, and Federal healthcare information. These certifications will also allow Federal agencies to leverage box services in ITAR, CJIS and IRS-1075 compliant environments.

KeySafe with KMS in the Amazon Web Services GovCloud

Available today, this solution allows government agencies to self-manage encryption keys in a government specific enclave, providing control and visibility into their data residing in the cloud. The KeySafe with AWS GovCloud solution reduces insider threat and increases compliance and governance over sensitive government information, without sacrificing the user centric content management and collaboration capabilities of box.

This new capability builds on a long list of government-centric capabilities Box has announced over the last year, including Retention Management, Defensible Discovery/FOIA, Litigation hold, secure capture and content classification.

Customer Momentum

We are also excited to share that the District of Columbia office of the CTO, the city of Atlanta and the State of Nevada have recently joined the list of over 6,500 government agencies using Box to modernize public service. Box is helping the District improve workforce productivity, reduce infrastructure costs, and leverage a powerful new platform for the city to build new citizen facing digital experiences. In Atlanta and Nevada, Box is being deployed to improve decision-making and operations, making agencies more nimble, better connected, and responsive to their constituents. The County of Santa Barbara, CA is also using Box to improve emergency response and disaster management.

As I discussed during a conversation on Government Matters TV recently, there is no better time than the present for government agencies to prioritize legacy modernization efforts. Legacy systems consume over 80% of the over $90B the Federal government spends on IT annually. Still, many of these systems are increasingly difficult to protect against cyber attacks, don't offer agencies the agility to meet new and emerging mission requirements, and are increasingly complex to maintain and enhance in light with new expectations of always available, on demand, mobile centric expectations of citizens and stakeholders. Modern, secure cloud platforms, including box, offer tremendous capabilities for agencies to quickly deliver mission outcomes, while reducing the cost and complexity of IT, and offer more secure architecture by design.

With Box for Government, we are excited to work with government agencies at all levels, to help them deliver modern digital experiences to their constituents, streamline internal operations, and reduce legacy costs and complexity.
