BRAIN AG's first annual report following the company's 2016 initial public offering received a total of four communication and design awards. The company's second annual report has now also been presented with a renowned accolade at this year's European Design Award (or ED Awards) ceremony. The 2016/17 business report entitled 'Applied Evolution' was bestowed with a bronze award in the Annual Reports category.

The ED Awards emerged from a joint initiative launched by design magazines from all over Europe and are supported by the International Council of Design (ico-D), a global organisation for design professionals founded in London, UK, in 1963. A jury made up of publishers, journalists, editors and academics unveils laureates once every year with the first awards presented back in 2007. This year entries from 24 different European countries were nominated.

BRAIN's 2016/17 annual report convinced the expert jury with its exceptional and sophisticated design as well as with its superior reader guidance. One distinctive feature about the BRAIN AG company report is that it was devised and designed internally by a small interdisciplinary team made up of designers and experts from various BRAIN management areas. The ED Awards ceremony took place on 2 June 2018 in Oslo, Norway.

Dipl.-Des. Bettina Schreiner, Art Director at BRAIN, was involved in content structuring and conceptualising of the report and also had overall responsibility for the report's graphic design. Says Schreiner: 'BRAIN's annual reports reflect the vision and strategy of our company. We want to convey a comprehensive and authentic picture of BRAIN in a changing industrial environment. We are absolutely proud that we evidently have succeeded in doing so once again.'

In BRAIN AG's conception of itself, communication, information and design are core fields of activity for the company. In the past few years, BRAIN has been honoured quite a number of times for its scientific achievements as well as for its extraordinary activities in the areas of art, culture and communication. Besides the 2017 Red Dot Design Award, the 2017 iF Design Award, the 2017 BCM Award and the 2017 Award presented by the German Designers' Club (DDC) for its 2015/16 annual report, BRAIN was, among other prizes, also bestowed with the renowned 2016 WERKBUND Label, which is awarded for prototypical, innovative and societally significant activities as well as for good design.

BRAIN AG's 2016/17 'Applied Evolution' annual report was published in January 2018. It is available for download as a pdf file from BRAIN's website. Printed versions will be supplied on request.

About European Design Awards

Since 2007 a group of people, made out of publishers, journalists, editors and academics, come together on a yearly basis, to gather, evaluate and acknowledge the best examples of communication design in our continent. It is a very special and unique set up, in the sense that it involves the people who curate similar content on an every day basis. As such it also provides participants with an opportunity to make their work visible to a wider audience (through the media that the jury members represent). The European Design Awards wraps up with a festival in a different city every year, leading up to the awards ceremony. This creates an ideal opportunity for the most creative people of our community to come together, benchmark, be inspired and celebrate. Further information at europeandesign.org/.
