Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. (FFNA), a leading provider of IT-based business solutions, including advanced technology products, biometric security, and digital media solutions, Broadcast International (BCST:OTC BB), a leading provider of video management services and software for next generation video IP networks, and Myricom, a technology leader in extreme-performance 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) solutions specialized for vertical markets, have announced a strategic alliance to deliver an integrated private cloud transcoding solution to the Media and Broadcast market.

The fully integrated solution combines Fujitsu's leading Primergy Servers and XG Series 10GbE Switches, Myricom's Myri-10G 10-Gigabit Ethernet network adapter cards with new VideoPumpTM specialized video-streaming software, and Broadcast International's CodecSysTM, a breakthrough, multi-codec video compression technology that cuts video bandwidth requirements.

"Working with these industry leaders, Broadcast International and Myricom, to address the growing demand to optimize rich-media for distribution to an increasing diversity of devices is an exciting step for Fujitsu," said Vic Herring, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, FFNA. "The network infrastructure challenges inherent in meeting this growing demand, such as bandwidth, storage, transcoding and file access and optimization, are readily overcome via our private cloud strategy. We feel confident that the Media and Broadcast market will embrace the solution as it is powerful, cost-effective, and secure."

All elements in the solution play a critical functional role, from the Fujitsu server and switch products to the Myricom Myri-10G network adapters and VideoPump? software. Myricom's VideoPump software is critical for the UDP streaming of IPTV video, with typical throughput levels clocked at nearly 80Gb/s per server, enough to support 8,000 simultaneous streams of high-definition video. VideoPump's extremely low CPU overhead (<10% of one CPU core) means that customers can achieve massive scale video delivery using fewer, less expensive, servers, thereby reducing both capital and operating expenses.

"Working with Fujitsu and Broadcast International allows us combine our technologies to rapidly develop a unique solution for an exciting market opportunity," said Dr. Nan Boden, CEO of Myricom. "This integrated solution leverages the extreme performance of Myricom's adaptable 10-Gigabit Ethernet hardware with our VideoPump software to deliver an optimized solution for a new vertical market. We look at this cloud computing appliance as a powerful starting point in our strategic alliance with Fujitsu. "

The solution subsequently relies on Broadcast International's CodecSys software to compress and optimize media files for the variety of associated bandwidth parameters leveraged by an increasing array of devices, including phones, tablets, laptops, PC's and even set-top boxes and game consoles. It is the multi-codec technology in CodecSys that cuts bandwidth needs by up to 50% compared to traditional MPEG2 encoding technologies and eliminates proprietary, hardware-based appliances from the video optimization landscape.

"Taking this process off the back of a local or distributed server network and up to our private cloud environment permits all aspects of the solution to be purpose built for performance, efficiency and availability," said Steve Jones, Senior Vice President and General Manager, CodecSys Division, Broadcast International. "Operating under these ideal conditions, this video streaming solution leaps past legacy performance limitations, whether delivering live or file-based media, by continuously matching the right codec with the requirements of each scene."

Interested parties can obtain an Executive Brief for the solution at the International Broadcasters Convention 2011 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, running from September 9-13 - at the Stordis exhibit, stand number 7.A16 in Hall 7.
