For 2017, BLG LOGISTICS recorded sales of EUR 1 billion and EUR 87.8 million. That is an increase of EUR 42.2 million or four percent compared to 2016. The pre-tax result (EBT) increased significantly by EUR 2.7 million or 8.8 percent to EUR 33.5 million (previous year: EUR 30.8 million). The increase resulted in an increase of the EBT margin of 3.1 percent (previous year: 2.9 percent). That means both the EBT and the EBT margin are not only better than in the previous year, but better than forecast.

Last week BLG LOGISTICS officially started operations in its new, state-of-the-art logistics center in Falkensee near Berlin. The facility offers a logistics area of 22,000 square meters, 1,100 square meters of outside storage space, and 1,300 square meters of office space. The BLG focus here is on plant logistics services. The BLG team supplies the production shop of the Siemens gas turbine facility in Berlin-Moabit and its external location in Berlin-Siemensstadt.

All materials and intermediate products from the various suppliers come together in the new logistics center. 'We're responsible for picking of the components delivered, on-site transportation with our own trucks, and distribution of the materials to the installation locations in the Siemens plant,' explains Christian Dieckhöfer, Managing Director of BLG Industrielogistik GmbH & Co. KG. He adds: 'Since April 2017, our team at the Falkensee location has already been handling inbound logistics for the gas turbine production location. So far, we've been using a consolidation center in the plant itself for these activities.' BLG LOGISTICS has been a Siemens partner since 2000. Today it provides services for the customer's various divisions at a number of locations.

In October 2017, the project developer Panattoni Europe started construction of the new, sophisticated facility in Falkensee. Logivest GmbH provided project support. The new logistics center aims to achieve Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Although the facility is already operating at near-full capacity, a few square meters are still available for further development.

64,000 square meters of logistics space
In the direct vicinity is a supplier logistics center BLG LOGISTICS has been using for four years to handle all external warehouse processes for the Siemens switching system production plant in Berlin. Now, on a total 43,000 square meters of roofed-over logistics space and an outside area of 21,000 square meters in Falkensee, BLG provides services such as procurement logistics, production supply, distribution logistics, customs warehousing, set compilation, technical inspection, and post-processing for customers in machinery and plant construction, high-tech and automotive manufacturing. Christian Dieckhöfer says: 'The BLG Group draws on excellent competencies in implementing large, complex greenfield projects. You can see impressive proof of that in our high-tech logistics centers with automated, innovative equipment in Falkensee.' Falkensee, on the north-western outskirts of Berlin, offers two crucial location advantages: direct access to Freeway 10 via the Berlin-Spandau slip road, and closeness to Siemensstadt, where various BLG customers are based.
