Brewin Dolphin, one of the UK's leading independently-owned wealth managers, has appointed Grant Parkinson as Chief Operating Officer. Parkinson, 44, joins Brewin Dolphin from Coutts, the private bank, where he will have spent five years. He will take up the position in August, joining Brewin's executive committee and reporting directly to David Nicol, CEO.

'We are extremely pleased to be hiring a person of Grant's calibre to this vitally important position,' said Nicol. 'He has outstanding and relevant commercial experience at both Coutts and before that at Barclays Wealth. He joins at a crucial moment in Brewin's development where the firm is on a clear growth trajectory, and it is more important than ever to have a seasoned executive in this role.'

New Zealand-born, Parkinson worked for a total of ten years at McKinsey and Company and Barclays Wealth before joining Coutts as Executive Director in July 2012. In June 2013, he was promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer. Whilst COO at Coutts, Parkinson was also Chairman of RBS Asset Management Holdings and a board member of RBS Services (Switzerland).

'I am absolutely delighted to be joining the team at Brewin Dolphin,' said Parkinson. 'In a competitive market, the firm has developed a unique value proposition that focuses on delivering financial advice and investment solutions to individuals and families in a highly personalised way. The recent growth of the firm's assets under management, together with the growth in profits and dividends, shows that Brewin is delivering for both clients and shareholders.'

The appointment is the result of a thorough search and selection process following the departure of Thomas Lack earlier this year. In this role, Parkinson will oversee the company's operations departments including Business Support, Change Delivery, Dealing, Information Technology, Premises and Facilities Management. His experience will also be invaluable in the event of any future acquisitions. In December last year, Brewin Dolphin announced the acquisition of Duncan Lawrie Asset Management Limited.

In November 2016, Brewin Dolphin announced that total funds under management grew to £35.4 billion in the year to 30 September 2016, an increase of 10.6 per cent over the previous financial year. Preliminary results for the first six months of the current financial year will be announced on 17 May 2017.
