Brookdale Clarksville resident, Violet Hyde, celebrated a special milestone this week.

Violet celebrated her 102nd birthday at a party thrown by the residents and staff at her community on June 26th. The party included a visit from the Clarksville Mayor, Kim McMillan. The two shared a slice of Violet's all-time favorite treat, strawberry cake.

Violet was born in 1916, in Libertyville, Iowa. She came from a large family of five brothers and four sisters. Violet married Chief Warrant Officer Willard Nelson Hyde Brown on May 23, 1942. Together they had two sons, Willard Hyde, Jr. and Jerry Lee Hyde, who blessed them with four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She worked as a teacher in Jefferson County, Iowa, and even Germany and Japan. She traveled extensively in Japan, Europe, Korea, Saigon, Vietnam and Hawaii but was proud to make the Clarksville area her home.

Happy birthday Violet!
