bullion: the world's most powerful x86 enterprise server

Paris, November  12, 2014 -

Launched on 2 July 2014, the new generation of bullion servers form Bull has turned in a record performance in the international benchmark SPECint®_rate2006 test published on 22 October.

Performed on a 16-socket configuration, this benchmark demonstrates the exceptional level of performance delivered by bullion servers: the world's most powerful x86 enterprise server in its class.

Exceptional performance to support Cloud, Big Data and IT modernization.

As a true concentration of technologies for next-generation Data Centers, bullion:

  • Cuts the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for virtualization clusters by 30%

  • Enables the virtualization of even the most critical applications

  • Offers an affordable technological alternative, in terms of software costs, to Sparc and HP-UX systems

  • Has exceptional memory capacity, up to 24TB, to support in-memory Big Data applications

  • Draws on Bull's wealth of experience in High-Performance Computing (HPC).

"The fact that bullion has been recognized as the most powerful server in the world is a source of real pride for the Group. Bull's infrastructure expertise has been acknowledged once again, and this confirms our ambition to become a global leader in Big Data and the Cloud, within Atos," said Pierre Barnabé, Chief Operating Officer at Bull, an Atos company.

Featuring 240 Intel® Xeon® E7 v2 cores and 2TB of RAM, the new generation of bullion servers reached a peak performance of 9120 in the SPECint®2006 benchmark. Its fastest x86 rival only acheived a performance of 4500.

This new record performance is clear evidence that Bull has made the right technological choices for its new range of bullion servers, a modular and homogeneous range of systems offering between 2 and 16 sockets.

bullion has already been succesfully deployed in many public and private sector organizations, most notably in Europe, Africa and Brazil.
