CaixaBank is among the pioneering banks in innovation, earning it widespread recognition in Spain and beyond, including international awards. This interest in new technology has also gone hand in hand with a solid cybersecurity strategy, based not only on technical aspects but also part of an overall perspective.

Taking a prudent, common-sense attitude is essential when it comes to dealing with cyberthreats

Hence, a fundamental part of the bank's approach is to make its employees aware of the risks and threats involved in the digital world. For two years now the bank has been implementing a a specific cybersecurity awareness-raising plan among its workforce, to make sure they know about and can detect suspicious situations and learn to change certain habits in order not to fall victim to cyberattacks. One of the projects included in this plan is for face-to-face training sessions for employees. These have been going on for a year and a half all over Spain and have been attended by over 3,000 staff.

Raising awareness of the hazards of the online environment

One of the aspects dealt with in these training sessions focuses on so-called 'social engineering'. In many cases the first step for those who seek to gain sensitive information to compromise a company involves people who can help them to achieve their goal. Knowing about the new threats faced by citizens and corporations is of key importance to organisations, and the financial sector cannot ignore these practices.

According to CaixaBank cybersecurity experts, taking a prudent, common-sense attitude is essential when it comes to dealing with cyberthreats. Steps that might seem simple, like not clicking on links if one is not sure where they actually lead, mistrusting emails that look like automatic translations and not connecting devices like USB sticks of unknown origin are of real importance in defending ourselves against a cyberattack.

CaixaBank has implemented a cybersecurity ecosystem involving specialised equipment and the right infrastructure to protect online transactions against security issues.

The bank has been a pioneer in security coordination and research, with measures like setting up a group specialising in responding to computer security incidents and a centre to coordinate total security for the whole CaixaBank Group, known as CiberSOC, which works 24 hours a day. This team has become a computer security work group of recognised prestige thanks to its cooperation with other specialist organisations at national and international level.

The bank invests constantly in technology to meet its clients' requirements and guarantee its own growth, adaptability to business needs and the permanent availability of information. This makes sure its infrastructure is fully adapted to meet the needs of financial management and service to clients.

CaixaBank clients also have assured security for their electronic operations through the online banking transaction channels and card transactions through the CaixaBankProtect guarantee. Thanks to this guarantee, clients are protected against unauthorised use of their electronic channels and their means of payment through CaixaBank.
