• The list, compiled by CDP, selects the world's 187 best companies in terms of environmental strategy.

CaixaBank has achieved a position on The A List: CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index 2014, thanks to its policies for cutting carbon emissions and minimising the environmental footprint of its operations.

The index features 187 listed companies from all over the world with the most effective corporate strategies to mitigate climate change. The list is compiled by CDP, an international NGO, at the request of 767 international investors.

CDP, considered the biggest and most comprehensive global environmental outreach programme, evaluated information from around 2,000 companies to compile the 2014 index. CaixaBank, presided over by Chairman Isidro Fainé and CEO Gonzalo Gortázar, achieved an A rating, seeing it subsequently included in the global index for corporate action against climate change.

The CDP results are important for institutional investors and other operators who use the index to evaluate a company's engagement with sustainability issues.

Inclusion on the international CDP list follows other globally prestigious recognition for CaixaBank in the field of environmental action. In 2014 analysts from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the world's leading business indicator for corporate responsibility, awarded CaixaBank the highest possible score (100 points) for its environmental management system.

CaixaBank environmental management milestones

CaixaBank is committed to safeguarding the environment as a core aspect of its corporate responsibility strategy. The bank approved its first environmental plan in 2013, which detailed an environmental protection strategy. The main policy aspects included the incorporation of environmental criteria in products and services, action against climate change and the launch of environmental awareness campaigns.

Examples include an annual inventory of the greenhouse gas emissions generated by CaixaBank and action to minimize its carbon footprint. In 2013 the bank offset 658 tonnes of CO² emissions generated by its central services over the year by financing two clean energy projects in Colombia.

CaixaBank has also deployed digital signature and document digitalisation projects to reduce paper use, while also creating special financing facilities for ecological projects.
