Jet fuel supply at Melbourne Airport improving

23 January 2015

Normal supply of jet fuel at Melbourne Airport is being restored following a disruption stemming from a delayed shipment. The aviation industry fuel infrastructure operator - the Joint User Hydrant Installation (JUHI)* - has advised that jet fuel stocks have been managed to ensure all flights continue to operate as scheduled. Stock levels are expected to further improve over the next 24 hours.

Impact on Caltex customers

There have not been any flights delayed or cancelled as a result of jet fuel unavailability. As an affected supplier, Caltex has been in regular contact with its customers regarding the disruption to normal fuel delivery. Caltex represents approximately 11% of jet fuel supply to Melbourne Airport.

Supply of other fuel products to Melbourne

The industry shortage only affects jet fuel. Supply of all other products, including all grades of petrol, diesel and LPG, continues as normal.

* The Joint User Hydrant Installation (JUHI) is a joint-venture infrastructure manager that owns the fuel depot and hydrant infrastructure at Melbourne Airport. The JUHI has four participants: BP Australia, Caltex Australia, Mobil Oil Australia and Shell Aviation Australia.
