Caltex Star Mart raises over $400,000 to help make wishes come true for seriously-ill kids

March 20, 2014

There was no escaping the power of a wish when Caltex Star Mart held it's 'Wish Drive' in November last year.

The new partnership between Caltex Star Mart and Make-A-Wish Australia saw over 400 stores around Australia participate in one of the largest fundraising drives it has ever been involved in.

In an incredible effort that surpassed Make-A-Wish and Caltex Star Mart's expectations, the Star Mart Wish Drive raised over $400,000 for Make-A-Wish which will help to grant many wishes for seriously-ill children in Australia.

"This tremendous result was only possible due to the hard work and generosity of our Caltex Star Mart retailers, staff and customers. While this year represents the first time partnering with Make-A-Wish Australia, Caltex Star Mart has a long history supporting charities across Australia," Caltex National Manager Retail Leo Pucar said.

"The final tally raised is one of the largest ever achieved and testament to the deep respect and appreciation Australians have for Make-A-Wish Australia."

Caltex Star Mart customers showed their support by purchasing bumper 'wish stickers', making gold coin donations or by purchasing selected products in-store. Many Caltex Star Mart stores also put on sausage sizzles, face painting for the kids, car washing, and full driveway service in an effort to raise much-needed donations.

"We are thrilled with the outcome of the Wish Drive. To raise over $400,000 is an incredible feat and we are sincerely grateful to all of the Caltex Star Mart customers who came out to support the Wish Drive, and also to those 400 plus stores who took part," Make-A-Wish Australia CEO Gerard Menses said.

"Without the generosity and support of organisations like Caltex, we wouldn't be able to grant life-changing wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. With the healing power that goes beyond that of medicine alone, a Make-A-Wish wish is an essential complement to a child's medical treatment."
