Caltex acknowledges the EPA proceedings regarding the 2013 incident at its Banksmeadow
terminal.
Caltex undertook an extensive investigation following a leak from a petrol tank at its
Banksmeadow terminal in July 2013 into secondary containment. Although there was no
harm to the environment, Caltex is disappointed that the incident occurred given our
longstanding commitment to maintaining the highest standards in environmental, personal
and process safety. Caltex does not believe its systems and processes were inadequate.
However, every incident offers opportunities for further learning and improvements. After a
thorough investigation to establish the sequence of events and to assess the performance of
Caltex's management systems in relation to the incident, Caltex has refined some of its
systems as part of this continual improvement process.
Caltex is committed to maintaining safe and reliable operations and we are focused on
continuous improvement to reduce environmental, personal and process safety risk.
Caltex has at all times cooperated fully with the NSW Environment Protection Authority
throughout its investigation process. Caltex will not provide any further comments whilst the
matter is before the Courts.
