At Scarborough School, English pupils have been studying a range of topics. The red group have been reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes and completing comprehension tasks based on the text, they have also written newspaper articles and created posters that show their understanding of the book. Pupils have now started a unit on pirates.

Group 2 have read 1984, George Orwell's cautionary tale of a 'future' dystopia. All pupils have read to the rest of the group, overcoming an element that can be very difficult for some pupils. Pupils engaged very well in the book, which is challenging text. This group also created and presented PowerPoints for the speaking and listening element of their GCSE qualification; presentations included topics as diverse as scooters for sixteen year olds, York City FC, the rise of the Nazi Party and a British Sign Language lesson. Following this we have done revision to prepare pupils for their exam.

Group 1 have been working on Functional English in preparation for their exams, covering a wide range of material and writing tasks that stretch them. They have also taken part in group discussions for the speaking and listening element of their exam.
