For the second year running, Cape Environmental Services have been shortlisted for the Energy Industries Council (EIC) Award for Supply Chain Excellence 2014, a prestigious accolade to recognise a member organisation that has demonstrated a superior level of supply chain performance.

In its second year, the initiative has attracted an outstanding 20% increase in the number of entries from the inaugural year and submissions for the EIC Award for Supply Chain Excellence 2014 have maintained the exceptionally high benchmark set in 2013. Seven companies have now been shortlisted by the independent judging panel, who have all submitted excellent engineered solutions, products and services that demonstrate superiority within the supply chain.

Cape Environmental Services (Offshore Division) has successfully developed the Torpedo, an environmentally safe internal overboard caisson cleaning system, in conjunction with Apache North Sea. Torpedo is capable of operating below sea level to remove all scale and marine growth from the caisson back to the platform deck level for disposal. In deployments to date, the Torpedo has captured up to one tonne of waste per clean, preventing waste from dropping to the seabed or being sucked into seawater lift pumps.

Charlotte Hust, UK Regional Manager (Southern) EIC, said:

"All of the shortlisted entries clearly display a new or improved product, service or initiative that is commercially available and has offered proven tangible benefits to clients. With more entries this year, the judging panel had a difficult task to agree on a shortlist, but they have unanimously agreed upon these seven exceptional entries. The quality of this year's entries is testament to the outstanding contribution that the UK supply chain makes to the global energy market, and the EIC is delighted to showcase our members' capabilities through this initiative."

The entries were examined by a high-profile judging panel, including representatives from some of the most influential energy operators and contractors globally:

  • Mark Bradshaw, Vice President of Supply Chain & Chief Procurement Officer, BP;
  • Stewart A Reid, Future Networks Manager, SSE Power Distribution;
  • David Wylie, Group Procurement Director, Centrica;
  • Chris Squires, Lead Supply Chain Engagement Manager, EDF Energy;
  • Norman McLennan, Head of Global Supply- Chain, Sasol.

The winner of the award will be announced in a short presentation ceremony in front of industry peers at the EIC National Dinner, which will be held in the Central Hall at the Natural History Museum on 16 October 2014.
