Capella University offers three new online programs for data professionals The online university now offers Bachelor of Science minors in Data Analytics, Data Management, and Business Intelligence

MINNEAPOLIS, May 5, 2014 - With the demand for analytical talent projected to outpace supply by 60 percent in the next few years, Capella University has announced three new educational options to help address that need. They include Bachelor of Science in Information Technology minors in Data Analytics, and Data Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Business minor in Business Intelligence. Capella University (http://www.capella.edu) is a regionally accredited online university* that offers online degree programs designed to help working adults advance in their careers.

"We've designed the minors to provide a well-rounded, foundational education in data as well as a 'deep dive' into the specific skill areas of the chosen minor," said Sue Talley, EdD, dean of technology for Capella's School of Business and Technology. "Capella's minors also feature an interactive, collaborative learning environment that blends theory with practical application, including sophisticated software tools they can access from their desktop."

Through Capella's collaboration with SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, and the largest independent vendor in the business intelligence market, students can gain SAS knowledge that will prepare them with the high demand competencies needed to address the nation's skills gap.

New minors address growing need for analytical talent
McKinsey Global Institute projects that demand for analytical talent could be 60 percent greater than the supply in the coming years. To help meet this demand, Capella now offers three bachelor's-level minors that combine analytics with key competencies such as business acumen and foundational IT skills.

  • The Business Intelligence minor develops the knowledge to locate, collect, conform, analyze, and effectively present key information that will support the development of operational, tactical, and strategic solutions. Students build the skills and knowledge required to leverage their organizations' data assets and warehouses and learn to articulate the story in the data. Capella's Business Intelligence minor-along with relevant work experience-also helps students prepare for the Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) exams.
  • The Data Analytics minor addresses data analytics process and workflow concepts and activities, with a specific focus on data identification and collection, data cleansing, data conforming, and quality measurement. Students in the Data Analytics minor are able to access SAS tools as part of their program and also have free access to SAS® Self-Paced e-Learning courses, which can save thousands in preparation for the SAS® Certified Base Programmer professional certification.
  • The Data Management minor focuses on data governance, architecture, design, and integration, as well as other skills needed to organize and store data so it can be efficiently found and effectively communicated. It was developed in conjunction with the experts who helped create the Data Management Association International (DAMA) Guide to the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK) and provides the foundational knowledge required for the Certified Data Management Professional (CMDP) certification offered by DAMA.

In addition to these new bachelor's-level offerings, Capella provides opportunities to specialize in Business Intelligence while earning a post-bachelor's certificate (http://bit.ly/CapellaCertificateBusIntelligence), Master of Business Administration (MBA) (http://bit.ly/CapellaMBABusinessIntelligence) or Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) (http://bit.ly/CapellaDBA).

Combined bachelor's/master's options allow students to complete both degrees in less time
Capella's unique bachelor's/master's options allow eligible students to begin earning master's-level credits after completing at least 100 undergraduate credits in selected bachelor's programs. The master's courses are applied to the requirements for both the bachelor's and master's degrees, saving time and money.

With Capella's BS in Business, Business Intelligence minor, eligible students can enroll in a combined bachelor's/master's degree option with the MBA. With Capella's BS in IT, Data Management and Data Analytics minors, eligible students can enroll in a combined bachelor's/master's degree option with the MBA or MS in Information Systems and Technology Management (http://bit.ly/CapellaMSIT).
