Company Will Present $20,000 Scholarship on Winner's Behalf to Support Students Seeking Careers in Laboratory Medicine

DUBLIN, Ohio, April 23, 2014 - In conjunction with Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, Cardinal Health today announced urEssential, an award program to recognize medical laboratory professionals and their contributions to the field of health care.

"Laboratory medicine plays a major role in health care, with diagnostics informing nearly 70 percent of all medical decisions," said Lisa Ashby, president of Medical Devices and Diagnostics at Cardinal Health. "We believe that laboratory practitioners serve as the foundation and champions in health care and we want to take this opportunity to thank them for their service and recognize their on-going efforts toward the advancement of laboratory diagnostics."


Medical laboratory professionals can apply for the award directly, or they may be nominated by others. Nominators can visit cardinalhealth.com/urEssential to share their stories or those of peers who motivate, inspire and work to change clinical laboratory science.

Applications will be accepted through June 20. Finalists will be announced during the American Association for Clinical Chemistry annual meeting July 27-31. Cardinal Health will present on one finalist's behalf a $20,000 scholarship for students seeking careers in laboratory medicine to the institution of their choice.
