As part of an integrated project team with Sellafield Ltd, ACKtiv is supporting the safe decommissioning of the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond (FGMSP) at Sellafield through its Bulk Sludge and Fuel Retrievals (BS&FR) project.

The RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards are internationally recognised and open to organisations of all sizes across a wide spectrum of industries. Entrants must provide evidence of a good health and safety management system supported by a portfolio of relevant documentation.

Commenting on the award Managing Director of Carillion Civil Engineering, Mark Davies said: "We are delighted to have secured our ninth consecutive Gold Award and RoSPA Gold Medal which demonstrates our commitment to health and safety over the long-term. Our vision is to achieve zero accidents; each and every day we work and on every project."

Dorothy Gradden, Head of FGMSP for Sellafield Ltd added: "Safety is and always will be at the forefront of our activities at Sellafield. This award demonstrates that ACKtiv Nuclear shares our commitment to health and safety."

Sellafield Ltd is responsible for safely delivering decommissioning of the UK's nuclear legacy as well as fuel recycling and the management of low, high and intermediate level nuclear waste activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. The FGMSP has handled 27,000 tonnes of nuclear fuel over its lifetime and is now being decommissioned. Having ceased full scale operations in 1986, the facility still contains significant volumes of historical waste.
