An adequately heated home is especially important in winter when the cold can cause health problems for the elderly or the very young.
The Warm Front Scheme, delivered by green support services provider Carillion Energy Services (CES), provides Government grants for heating and insulation to help keen energy bills low and lift vulnerable households out of fuel poverty.
Mr Gilbert learnt more about Warm Front's benefits when he visited his constituent, Mr Lowerth, who has had a new more efficient heating system installed through the Scheme.
He also heard how CES has assisted around 4,850 households in his constituency since 2005 through a mix of energy efficiency programmes.
He said: "Rising energy prices are a major worry for many people in my constituency and around the country.
While these aren't going away, the most sustainable way to cope is by making our homes more energy efficient.

Mr Lowerth's new heating system has made an enormous difference to his level of comfort - and crucially has given him the added peace of mind that he can afford to keep his house warm all year round.
"The Government has now introduced the Green Deal to help make energy improvements more accessible and easy to finance for all households and for businesses. With no up-from costs this is set to transform the take-up of green energy and a give vital boost to the industry and to jobs."
Nicky Jones, from CES, added: "We were delighted to show Mr Gilbert the benefits of energy improvements, and also to talk about the increasingly important role other technologies such as renewables can play. As an accredited Green Deal Provider we now look forward to playing a leading role in this initiative."
