Company Contributes More Than $140,000 to the Community

RICHMOND, Virginia (May 18, 2016) - CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation's largest retailer of used cars, today celebrated the grand opening of its first Bay Area store in Pleasanton, located at 2750 Stoneridge Drive Two more locations, Fremont and Santa Rosa, will open this fall. The Pleasanton store will stock between 200-400 used vehicles of nearly every make and model, and has brought approximately 50 new jobs to the area.

During today's grand opening celebration, CarMax announced that The CarMax Foundation will invest approximately $95,000 for building a playground in the Bay Area. The playground is expected to be built next year through a partnership with KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit ensuring that all kids get the balance of play they need to become healthy and successful adults.

'Our commitment to our local communities is rooted in CarMax's culture,' said Bill Nash, president of CarMax. 'As CarMax expands in this region, we are especially excited to support and develop partnerships with area nonprofits that are making a positive impact in the community.'

CarMax is also investing approximately $35,000 to donate an Imagination Playground and a Rigamajig through KaBOOM!. These play products are innovative, loose-parts, playgrounds that engage kids in creative play that is physically challenging and collaborative. The Rigamajig will be donated to the Palo Alto Fisher House and CarMax is currently identifying an organization to receive the Imagination Playground. The associates of the Pleasanton CarMax chose the YMCA of East Bay to receive a $10,000 grant from The CarMax Foundation.
