Throughout November, Carrefour has been celebrating its checkout staff, who represent nearly one third of the store teams.

A survey of the most outstanding initiatives!

Belgium: Checkout staff show solidarity with breast cancer research
Carrefour Belgium celebrated Cashiers' Day on 19 November. To mark the occasion, the teams produced an illustrated book, 'Le Lapin sur le Parking' (The Rabbit in the Car Park), containing short stories written by none other than the checkout staff themselves. Special moments shared with their customers, now immortalised on paper. Carrefour collected 80 stories in total, and 15 of them were published. The book was sold in-store and the profits donated to the 'Pink Ribbon' organisation in support of the fight against breast cancer.

Italy: A gastronomy-themed celebration
Carrefour Italy held a great recipe competition. Store customers were invited to sample dishes created by checkout staff and voted for their favourites; the most popular were then published in a book. Not only does the book contain 56 recipes, but it also includes over 30 anecdotes provided by checkout staff reflecting their interaction with customers. The book is now on sale in-store in aid of the NutriAid organisation, which works to improve children's access to food throughout the world.

Poland: A fashion show and smiles galore
Carrefour Poland suggested that its checkout staff be ambassadors for its textile collections and gave them the opportunity to take part in in-store fashion shows. In parallel, a competition entitled 'A Smile for a Smile' was organised to choose and thank the most cheerful checkout team member. Lastly, a gala event was held for the checkout teams, a convivial time when checkout skills were firmly in the spotlight.

Romania: What amazingly talented checkout staff!
Carrefour Romania called on its checkout staff to reveal their artistic talents. Singing, dancing, painting - every team member was invited to video themselves and demonstrate their talent. Their performances were then put to the vote online via Carrefour Romania's Facebook page. The winners were awarded a trip to a tourist destination or a dinner with local celebrities.

Taiwan: Children, customers and fancy dress
Carrefour Taiwan honoured its checkout staff by inviting them to bring their children to work. Customers could leave a short word of thanks on a 'Cheer-up wall' in front of the checkouts. Lastly, the teams were invited to dress up and produce short videos, which were then posted on social networks.
