PARIS--French retailer Casino Guichard-Perrachon SA (>> CASINO GUICHARD) Thursday named the son of Chief Executive Jean-Charles Naouri as head of brand, digital and innovation, a move that suggests he could be being groomed as his father's heir apparent.
The news confirms information from a person familiar with the situation that was reported earlier Thursday.
The position will be Gabriel Naouri's first international management role at France's No. 2 retailer by sales after several years of experience in operations, having managed Casino's hypermarkets in northern France since 2010.
The move comes as Casino continues to extend its global footprint, having recently taken sole control of Brazilian retailer Grupo Pao de Acucar (CBD).
Before joining Casino in 2007, Mr. Naouri, the Casino CEO's eldest son, worked in mergers and acquisitions at Rothschild and as a marketing manager for L'Oreal SA's (>> L'OREAL) U.S. business, based both times in New York.
Mr. Naouri is also a member of the board at Casino's holding company, Rallye SA (>> RALLYE).
