Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) Chairman and Chief Executive Doug Oberhelman on Wednesday said he was surprised and happy to hear his company mentioned in the 'State of the Union' last night when President Obama was singling out companies bringing jobs back to America.
"I was surprised and a little happy to hear it. We have brought jobs into the U.S. as the U.S. economy has grown and we needed to match some of our job base here with our market here. The key to all this is growth," he said, adding that it's necessary to get past the fiscal uncertainty which is holding back business.
Mr. Oberhelman said the president's emphasis on manufacturing in his speech was "just outstanding" and "tax reform, immigration reform lead into a climate that makes it more appealing for manufacturing."
