CEMEX supplied 28,000 tons of its specialty cement for the new 170,000 m² stadium in Manaus
The stadium, located in the heart of the Amazon, has an innovative ecological design and is one of the world's first stadiums to be LEED certified
CEMEX participated in the construction of the Arena da Amazonia soccer stadium that has hosted several competitive opening round matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup including England vs. Italy, USA vs. Portugal, and is hosting the upcoming match of Honduras vs. Switzerland in the northern city of Manaus, Brazil.
Designed by the internationally recognized architectural firm of Von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (GMP), the new 170,000 square meter stadium has the capacity for more than 43,000 spectators and is one of the 12 stadiums built to accommodate the 2014 FIFA World Cup. CEMEX worked in close collaboration with renowned construction company Andrade Gutierrez S.A. providing 28,000 tons of its specialty high-quality cement and its tailor-made customer service throughout the project.

Oval shaped, the stadium resembles an indigenous woven basket: its upper level has see-through panels crisscrossed with beams in a woven pattern. The seats are painted in the colors of Amazon fruit-papaya, banana, mango, and pineapple.
The innovative stadium called for the highest quality standards of construction, adhering to the strict safety requirements of FIFA and the Brazilian National Construction Code. The stadium's ecological design is a model for sustainable construction of large-scale projects. Its innovative characteristics combine comfortable facilities with high energy efficiency and make it one of the world's first stadiums to be certified under the LEED scheme administered by the U.S. Green Building Council.
CEMEX supplied cement via its marine terminal located in Manaus, approximately 20 kilometers from the stadium.
