CEMEX, in partnership with contractor Copisa Group, have
recently completed the first stretch of a bridge that
will connect the Port of Barcelona with Barcelona
airport. The entire structure is expected to be completed
later this year, with CEMEX providing over 30,000 m³ of
different types of specialty ready-mix concrete.
The bridge, which crosses Llobregat River, had specific
requirements. The three pillars of the structure needed
high-strength concrete that would support a road 300 meters
long and 30 meters wide. The material also had to flow
through the intricate framework, be auto-compacting, and
maintain workability during two hours.
To produce the concrete for this demanding job, CEMEX used
its cement CEM I 52'5 along with a mix of aggregates and
proprietary state of the art additives. The product was up
to the task and CEMEX will continue providing other
specialty concrete mixes for the other phases of the
project.
CEMEX continually works to develop solutions for its
customers' building challenges. Leveraging years of
experience, a worldwide pool of knowledge, and
state-of-the-art expertise, CEMEX constantly designs
special concrete products that fulfill customers' and the
construction industry's increasingly demanding performance
requirements.
