CEMEX Supplies Concrete for Mexico City's New 'Lung'

April 18, 2018

CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. ('CEMEX') (NYSE: CX) announced today that it supplied over 44,000 cubic meters of concrete for road pavement and infrastructure development of 'La Mexicana' Park, a former mine located in Mexico City's Santa Fe area that was turned into a public space for the enjoyment of more than 20,000 people weekly.

Working under a turnkey project scheme, CEMEX paved the new four-lane roads surrounding the park-Luis Barragan and Paseo de los Arquitectos avenues-an area totaling 35,000 square meters with 3 kilometers of development.

Given the neighbors' quality requirements and prior to any construction work, CEMEX performed a ground analysis showing that the land was geographically unstable, which would make paving complicated under traditional processes.

Thus, CEMEX recommended the use of 5,000 cubic meters of a special mix designed to level difficult grounds, enable paving even during rainfall, and facilitate the roads' opening in just one day, which minimized traffic interruption in the area during work hours.

'For this project, CEMEX delivered technology, knowledge, and above all, punctuality, crucial for the completion of such a large-scale project in only 13 months-a record from a construction standpoint,' said Architect Mario Schjetnan, who was in charge of the design of 'La Mexicana' park, together with Architect Víctor Márquez.

Thanks to the opening of the new roads, over 20,000 people will now be able to visit this park every weekend. Overall, this construction project will directly benefit 350,000 people in the area, including neighbors, workers, students, and people visiting the park from other parts of the city.

In addition to the pavement of new roads, CEMEX participated in the construction of a significant part of the park's infrastructure, including the gourmet terrace's slab, the tank that will capture and supply rainwater, a tunnel that connects the roads to the park, and facilities such as a jogging and walking tracks, cycling tracks, and two artificial lakes, which required a total of 44,615 cubic meters of concrete.

'CEMEX is present throughout the park with an impressive quality control: there is not a single spot in the concrete, nor did we have a single bad slump,' added Schjetnan, who was awarded the 2017 CEMEX 'Lorenzo H. Zambrano' Award.
