Centrica has been recognised as a global leader for action on reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the risk of climate change by CDP, an international NGO representing around a third of the world's invested capital.

For the first time, Centrica achieved a position in CDP's Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index (SCPLI) 2014, which comprises of suppliers with a strong approach to climate strategy and emissions reduction.

3,396 companies completed the annual assessment which resulted in Centrica being one of only 121 suppliers to feature in the SCPLI. These companies placed in the top 4% globally and were awarded an 'A' grade for climate performance.  19 UK companies and seven utilities also ranked within the Index.

Inclusion in the SCPLI reaffirms Centrica's steadfast commitment to sustainable growth. Our strategic investments in gas, nuclear and wind mean that we have one of the lowest carbon intensity fuel mixes of energy suppliers in the UK. Also, the products we installed for customers since 2010, has saved around 9.8mtCO2e which is equivalent to taking 668,000 cars off the road.

Jim Rushen, Head of Environment at Centrica said, "We recognise that energy has an impact on climate change, which we strive to reduce. We do this by reducing carbon emissions from our own operations, while helping customers and suppliers cut consumption through innovative products and energy efficiency services.  Featuring in the index demonstrates our commitment to securing the energy supplies our customers need, responsibly".

Paul Simpson, Chief Executive Officer at CDP commented, "Greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise globally and we face steep economic risk if we do not mitigate them.  The business case for action to mitigate climate change impacts in the supply chain has never been stronger or more urgent.  For this reason we congratulate those suppliers who have achieved a position on CDP's Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index.  These companies are responding to the growing demand for environmental accountability while at the same time making progress towards the realisation of sustainable economies".

This result is in addition to top marks awarded for disclosure and action on climate change by CDP in 2014. Centrica came first out of FTSE350 companies, having achieved an A for performance and 100/100 for transparent disclosure on climate change.
