June 21--An Austrian unit of Colorado Springs-based Century Casinos Inc. has acquired Saw Close Casino Ltd., which holds a license to develop an operate a small casino in Bath, England, for $766,000 and also includes debt of $196,000 owed to the landlord of the casino site.
Saw Close has a 30-year lease on the casino site and plans to spend $6.4 million to design, build and equip the 15,000-square-foot casino with 18 gaming tables, 35 slot machines and 24 automated live gaming terminals. The casino is scheduled to open in the first quarter of next year and will be part of a development that also includes a 147-room hotel and two restaurants.
Century owns or operates casinos in Cripple Creek, Central City, Argentina, Aruba, Canada, Poland and aboard 13 cruise ships. The company also operates a horse racing track and a network of off-track betting locations in Canada.
