Cereplast, Inc. (NASDAQ:CERP), a leading manufacturer of proprietary bio-based, compostable and sustainable plastics, announced today that Dr. Kelvin Okamoto has been appointed Senior Vice President of Research and Development. Dr. Okamoto will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of Cereplast's global research and development strategy. He will concentrate on new technological platforms, and will lead the patent strategy of the Company.

Dr. Okamoto brings over twenty years of research and development experience in the plastics and packaging industries to the Company. A recognized expert in plastics material engineering, his extensive background includes the development and implementation of strategy surrounding corporate sustainable products. Prior to joining Cereplast, Dr. Okamoto served as the Manager of Materials Engineering at Solo Cup Operating Corp. He has also held management positions at Himont (now LyondellBasell), Packaging Corporation of America (now Pactiv) and Trexel, Inc.

Dr. Okamoto holds a PhD in Chemistry from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Stanford University. A published author of a book on microcellular processing, he is also a member of the American Chemical Society and Society of Plastics Engineers; additionally, Dr. Okamoto is a registered patent agent.
