New Center Will be a Full-Service Medical Home for ViaSat Employees

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - July 31, 2013 - Cerner has partnered with ViaSat Inc., a California-based satellite and digital communications company, to open an on-site health center available to 2,800 ViaSat employees and their covered dependents. The Center features the latest in technology and design principles to create a personalized health experience for each individual.

"The Wellness Center is designed to be a full-service medical home for ViaSat employees and their families, where they can receive treatment for common illnesses and injuries as well as a variety of preventive care," said Mike Heckman, vice president, Cerner population health services. Cerner is projecting an estimated $2.90 in savings for every $1 ViaSat invests in the Wellness Center with savings attributed to direct cost avoidance, health improvement and productivity savings.

The 2,300 square foot Wellness Center is designed to be person-centric, giving its members a redefined health care experience. It features four inviting care suites with one reserved for chiropractic care and massage therapy, as well as a lab for CLIA-waved tests. Providers in the Wellness Center will use the Cerner® electronic health record and employees (and their dependents aged two and above) can schedule appointments online and manage their health more easily with Cerner Patient Portal.

ViaSat produces innovative satellite and other digital communications products that enable fast, secure and efficient communications to people out of reach of traditional terrestrial networks in both the commercial and government sectors. "ViaSat shares Cerner's values around innovation and technology," said Rachel Jobin, ViaSat human resources manager. "The opening of this on-site health center further demonstrates the value of our alignment and cooperation, and highlights the importance of supporting the health and wellness of employees and their families."
