Thousands of Schwab employees and executives today will begin Schwab’s 13th annual volunteer event by rolling up their sleeves to help local and national charities in approximately 160 cities across the United States. This year’s Schwab Volunteer Week is expected to break last year’s record, with some 5,500 Schwab employee volunteers signed up for service projects that will benefit 300 charities coast to coast. Approximately 220 Schwab branch offices around the country will also participate in the week-long event this year, allowing Schwab to provide support at an even deeper level, addressing specific needs in local schools, shelters, food pantries, community centers, and more. Schwabbies will perform more than 22,000 volunteer hours during the week, valued at approximately $518,000. In addition, Charles Schwab Foundation will provide a total of $100,000 in grants to participating nonprofits during Schwab Volunteer Week, as it has in years past.

“I am so very proud of the way in which employee volunteerism has grown and evolved at Schwab,” said Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, president of Charles Schwab Foundation. “Schwab employees and local nonprofits have been working side by side to strengthen our communities for years. We're excited to get out there again—more than 5,500 strong this year—and together make a positive impact during Schwab Volunteer Week 2016.”

Many Schwab Volunteer Week projects are designed to help nonprofits work toward increasing the financial capability and well-being of the people they serve, but Schwab employees can also participate in a range of other, diverse volunteer projects. These include light construction, landscaping and gardening, painting and cleaning, and meal service. Benefiting organizations include:

  • Youth development organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters;
  • Public elementary, middle and high schools;
  • A wide variety of human services and economic development organizations, including Dress for Success, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald House, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

For the first time ever, Schwab clients will also be invited to participate in a number of service projects in select locations, including Washington, DC; Chicago; Orange County and San Diego; Seattle; the San Francisco Bay Area; and Houston.

Employee volunteer photos will be posted throughout the week and can be viewed and downloaded here.
