THE WOODLANDS, Texas, Dec. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- CB&I (NYSE:CBI) today announced the placement of the CA05 structural module for the V.C. Summer Unit 2 nuclear island.

"This is one of many major milestones achieved at the V.C. Summer project this year," said Patrick K. Mullen, President of CB&I's Engineering, Construction and Maintenance operating group. "Placement of the CA05 module illustrates the continued progress we are making on the project and the teamwork between CB&I, Westinghouse, SCANA Corp. and Santee Cooper."

The 180,000-pound CA05 forms part of the chemical and volume control system tunnel as well as the passive core cooling system walls within the containment vessel. The steel plates of the CA05 will be filled with concrete and provide structural support for the containment building.

CB&I and Westinghouse are building two AP1000(®) nuclear electric-generating units at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station near Jenkinsville, South Carolina. These nuclear units are among the first built in the U.S. in 30 years.
