Since 2011, Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Engineering (SRIPE) has undertaken the research of key shale gas engineering technologies and developed a series of technologies supporting the drilling and completion of horizontal wells with lateral sections of up to 2,000 meters and 20-stage fracturing.

Sinopec announced in Hong Kong in late March that it discovered China's first mono-block shale gas field in Jiaoshi Town, Fuling District of Chongqing and put it into commercial production ahead of schedule. This was China's first successful large-scale commercial development of shale gas. SRIPE's independently developed engineering technologies have strongly supported the development of Fuling shale gas.
