China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (CHU) expects 3G handset subsidy costs to continue to rise this year, an executive from the telecommunications firm said Thursday.
China Unicom, the country's second-largest mobile operator by subscribers after China Mobile Ltd., said Thursday costs from subsidizing 3G handsets in 2011 totaled CNY5.79 billion.
Meanwhile, the Chinese firm's collaboration with Apple Inc. (AAPL) has generated better-than-expected results for the Chinese firm for the last three years, China Unicom Executive Director Li Gang said at a press briefing.
Its net profit rose 14.2% to CNY4.2 billion last year as its 3G and fixed-line broadband businesses continued to grow.
