Chorus has today marked the completion of its Ultra-Fast Broadband(UFB) network build in Masterton, meaning more than 9,500 households, businesses, schools and health facilities now have access to fibre.

Chorus today joined Communications Minister Amy Adams and Masterton Mayor Lyn Patterson for an event to celebrate the completion of the project.

Masterton is the seventh town in New Zealand to have its fibre network completed under Chorus’ UFBprogramme.

UFBhas the potential to transform New Zealand’s economy, our communities, and the way we connect to the rest of the world, so we’re really looking forward to seeing how the Masterton community can best take advantage of having world-class connectivity right on their door step,” Chorus Executive Tim Harris says.
South Wairarapa Veterinary Services is one such business already taking advantage of UFB.

Director Adrian Evans says the company’s new Masterton branch clinic is making full use of its UFBconnection, which is helping the wider business.

“We have a multi-branch business covering the Wairarapa region, and real-time data connections between all four sites for client records, and clinic management software is critical.

“We also have a digital imaging system for x-rays which all staffcan access through the web, which allows for large data exports and imports to the cloud storage.
“We can now run a state-of-the-art phone system for the whole business, and the UFBconnection in Masterton allows this to happen.

UFBat a single branch has given us a taste of the potential, and we are looking forward to UFBconnections at the other sites to further capitalise on the benefits business-wide.”

Chorus is building about 70 per cent of the UFBnetwork in a public-private partnership with the Government.

Chorus is about 45 per cent of the way through the rollout of the UFBnetwork, which is New Zealand’s largest ever communications project. All up, Chorus’ UFBnetwork will run past more than 830,000 homes, businesses, schools and health facilities throughout the country by the end of 2019.

Aswell asMasterton, Chorus has also completed UFBbuild work in Oamaru,
Ashburton, Blenheim, Timaru, Taupo and Greymouth.

Across New Zealand, fibre uptake remains strong, with more than 86,000 premisesnow connected to a fibre service in Chorus’ UFBareas.
