ST. PAUL, Minn., Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Perry Meyer, a New Ulm, Minn., producer and long-time cooperative leader, has been elected to the board of CHS Inc. (NASDAQ: CHSCP), the nation's leading farmer-owned cooperative and a global energy, grains and foods company.

Meyer was elected to a three-year term on the 17-member board at the recent CHS Annual Meeting on Dec. 5 in Minneapolis. He succeeds Jerry Hasnedl of St. Hilaire, Minn., who retired after 19 years.

Meyer, 60, brings to the CHS Board more than three decades of cooperative and agricultural leadership experience. He currently serves as president of Heartland Corn Products Cooperative, a board on which he has served since 1992, and has been president of Steamboat Pork Cooperative since 1998. He also has served as a member of the NU-Telecom board since 1995 and was a past director for the former CHS Oilseed Defined Investment board.

Meyer also is a member of and active in a broad range of other ooperative and agricultural organizations including United Farmers Co-op, Winthrop, Minn.; South Central Grain and Energy, Fairfax, Minn.; River Region Co-op, Sleepy Eye, Minn.; Heartland Corn Products Cooperative, Winthrop, Minn.; Minnesota Farm Bureau, Minnesota and Nicollet County corn growers associations and Minnesota Pork Producers Association. He is president of St. John's Church and chairman of the Minnesota Valley Lutheran School foundation. He has previously held leadership roles on numerous local government boards.

Meyer is a 1974 graduate of Alexandria (Minn.) Technical School with a degree in agricultural mechanics. He attended the CHS New Leaders Forum in 1985 and is a 2006 graduate of the Minnesota Agriculture and Rural Leadership (MARL) program.

Along with his daughter and son-in-law, he operates a 2,500 acre corn and soybean farm and finishes 12,000 hogs annually. Meyer and his wife, LouAnn, have three other daughters and three grandchildren.
