Chubu Electric Power Incorporate : Start of Joint Research on Cyber Security

Chubu Electric Power is proud to announce that it has decided to launch joint research into cyber security from this April, partnering with Hitachi, Ltd. and Keio University, and today signed an agreement on collaborative studies.

How to address the increasingly sophisticated and advanced cyberattack methods is an urgent issue for cyber security. It's becoming crucial to go beyond boundaries as a single private sector operator and to deal with such attack methods by reinforcing business-to-business and industry-academic ties alike.

Keio University and Hitachi, Ltd. started joint studies in February 2016, with an eye toward realizing a 'Super Smart Society' which involves the interconnection of many different systems. The two institutions have been promoting multi-dimensional research including those for coordination between security operation centers.

Keio University is also working on global collaborations. One example is their leading role in establishing the InterNational Cyber Security Center of Excellence （INCS-CoE） in November 2016, the world's first global organization consisting of major American, British, and Japanese universities. INCS-CoE was launched to address problems concerning policies and systems on the information-sharing of cyberthreats that span beyond organizational and national confinements.

Chubu Electric Power has know-how and data it gained from its active commitment as a key infrastructure operator to ensuring cyber security, and from engaging many years in both information technology （IT） and operation technology （OT） security operations.

Chubu Electric Power considers participating in Keio University and Hitachi, Ltd.'s initiative would enable efforts to be carried out in demonstration test fields, and contribute to enhancing security measure technologies accordingly. It is Chubu Electric Power's hope to share the outcome of the joint research with Chubu area customers and translate the results into industry-academia-government collaborative efforts.
