Global warming countermeasures and other initiatives to protect the environment are considered one of Chubu Electric Power's key management issues, and the company is proud to announce its decision to generate power through the co-firing of woody biomass at Taketoyo Thermal Power Plant Unit 5. As part of an effort to develop eco-friendly and renewable energy, a replacement plan is ongoing to render this unit dedicated to coal-fired thermal power.

Taketoyo Thermal Power Plant Unit 5 is scheduled to start operating commercially in March 2022. Mixing coal with wood pellets, i.e. biomass fuels, at this unit is expected to allow for bringing CO2 emission down by around 900,000 tons a year compared with an exclusive coal-firing system.

Chubu Electric Power would like to move forward with the replacement plans with the understanding and cooperation from residents in local communities and various relevant parties.
