BLOOMFIELD, Conn. - February 20, 2018 - Cigna (NYSE:CI) has named Wendy Sherry as market president for its commercial health care and related benefits plans in Connecticut. This is a new position, created earlier this year when the company established Connecticut as a stand-alone market separate from the rest of New England. Cigna's New England market will continue to be led by Mark Butler, who is based in Newton, Mass.

In her new role, Sherry's responsibilities now include driving market growth by creating customer value and ensuring that the local market strategy, product and network offerings meet evolving customer and client needs. She will also collaborate with area health care professionals and health systems to help improve the health of Cigna's Connecticut customers, and lead Cigna's efforts to serve communities throughout the state.

Sherry will also continue to lead Cigna's national Payer Solutions business unit, which sells Cigna networks, pharmacy and other health services on a wholesale basis to third party administrators (TPAs), hospitals and insurers. She will continue to be based at the company's headquarters in Bloomfield.

'Wendy Sherry is a seasoned Cigna executive who has seen first-hand how health care operates from many angles,' said Mike Triplett, Cigna president, U.S. Markets. 'She is passionate about Cigna's health improvement mission, and has broad experience forging strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. I can think of no one better suited to lead our business in Connecticut and advance our efforts to become the partner of choice for employers, health care providers, community organizations and customers.'

Sherry joined Cigna in 1995 and has held numerous positions in product, financial analysis and planning, reporting, and medical management. Prior to becoming head of Payer Solutions last year she had been chief operating officer for the New England market, and before that she was vice president of product development. Prior to joining Cigna, she was a manager at Ernst & Young.

Sherry holds a bachelor's degree in business from Emory University and is a former Certified Public Accountant. She is also a graduate of Cigna's Financial Development Program.

In 2017, Sherry served as Cigna's executive sponsor for the Girls on the Run Greater Hartford inaugural 5K run. She also serves on the board of the Governor's Prevention Partnership, which helps organizations, communities and families prevent substance abuse, underage drinking and violence among Connecticut youth.
